The Spirit in one and ALL

Meet the Spirit - that is in You and that is in Me
Neither man nor woman, neither animal nor human

It just is, ever present, ever conscious, ever aware
Relaxed, Peaceful, Intentful, Playful and DEEP

The world of forms come and go, the harder we try to HOLD them,
the farther we step away from the Spirit

ENJOY the world, play with its FORMS,
But be prepared to meet the next new WORLD
It is just as pleasing, for at the DEEP SPIRIT, it is of the SAME ESSENCE

The Inner is always Secure
The Outer worries too much

Anchor the Outer in the Inner
Find that place of Certainty, which is Your natural Realm

Focus on your Current Task at Hand,
And let the Future Take Care of Itself

Help Life Unfold in it own Time
Help Life Achieve its beautiful Purpose

Your Help helps the Divine

The underlying melody

The melody sings its beautiful music
Untouched by the unfolding drama above

Deep & Sweet is its nectar,
Inviting you to Your seat in the dense, verdant forest

The outside incessantly impinges on your mind,
Seeking to draw you from You

But your Home is That Wondrous Place,
Timeless, Eternal, Young and Radiant

Work from That Place of Joy
Speak from That Seat of Silence
Engage from That Nest of Sweetness
And Behold - The Exterior and Interior Become one and the Same
"And Father's Kingdom is All Around You"

Simplicity of the Will

"Do your Deeds, Worry not about the Result"

Let us examine that famous phrase from the Bhagavad Gita some more.

There is a purpose for the fulfillment of which the miracle of Life has happened on Earth, and there is a purpose for which humankind has evolved. And that is to perform wondrous deeds - or indeed, allow wondrous deeds to happen through him or her.

Simplicity or Saadgi in Hindi, is a powerful word - saying "Be the Medium through which the Creator does His Creating".

Results - especially worldly results such as fame, fortune and recognition - are often obstacles rather than aids in making this happen.

The best poetry happens when it is free from the ego.
The best vocalists shine when their years of struggle fine tune those wonderful vocal cords.
The best novelists produce their work away from the limelight, and frequently try to re-capture that isolation to produce additional wonderful work.

Keep your heart open, your demeanor simple, the mind honest and disciplined, the character clean - and let the rest happen - as pure magic begins to flow through you!

Your MoJo returns - when you are in Sync

You are ONE

Whole, Complete, Indivisible

Like the Source that you come from

Like the Infinite that you are a part of

The Created World creates Apparent Dualities

The unfulfilled emotion seeks Completion in these Dualities

Do not chase this Variability - rather, Accept them

Acceptance Completes; Acceptance brings you In Sync

Acceptance will dictate your Next Steps; Acceptance brings Change!

As you become In-Sync, your MoJo, which is a natural part of You, Returns!

Every Word Carries Emotion

The Whole is divided, and then sub-divided

Positive/Negative, High/Low, Good/Bad
They All Flow from the Churning of the Ocean

Opposites attract, seeking to be Whole Again
Emotions draw Us In, seeking to Complete Themselves

So speak from the Wholeness that is You
Give your Words your Completeness

Ever Kind, ever Gentle, ever Loving
They will make all they touch - Whole, Complete and at Peace

Welcome to Our World!

My Beloved Steers Me Gently,
Like a breeze caressing a Horse's Mane

We move as One
My Beloved leading, and sometimes I

For Our Dance Celestial
The Universe is too cramped

Incredible is Our Creative Force,
Irresistible is Our Charm

Bursting Forth from the Heart's Cove
Sacred Ink Pens the UnCreated

Welcome to Our World!
Enter with All that is TRUE and YOU!

Return to Normalcy

You are born, pure and pristine
Carrying the perfect lamp, transmitting the perfect Light

You grow, You learn
You eat of the Apple of Knowledge

You grow, You observe
You see the Great Error

You listen, You repeat, You follow
You become the Great Error

You carry the perfect Lamp,
But do not transmit its perfect Light

Stop, Just Stop - cries your Body
Come Back Home - whispers your Spirit
I am tired - groans your Mind

The morning Sun seeks to awaken You
The singing Bird seeks to play with You
That lovely dog just adores You
And that perfect child finds You to be Perfect!

Open Your Heart One More Time!
Let that Perfection Shine through One More Time!
Let Your Presence Heal the World One More Time!
Eternal Love Awaits you One More Time!

The Obsession with Maya

The World is Maaya, an Illusion
All that Arises, passes Away

The mind however keeps it all Alive
Clinging, Running behind it
Like it was the Most Important Thing

Social Feedback feeds an Illusory Image of Self
Protecting that Image becomes a life-long Burden
The Image may be that of a Worthy Person,
Or of an Achiever
The Image may be subtle or Gross
But it is an Image in the End
It Hides the Truth and Takes me Over

And the Leela continues over and over
Some say it carries through many bodies and many forms
The Sense of Separation, and
Seeking Self where it is not to be found

Courage, find Courage to let it Go
Find Courage to Trust in Truth, for you Know Truth
Feel It, Experience It
And Hold the High Frequency of Truth

Rest is all "Striving After The Wind"

Hard to Ignore

I am Aware of Your Presence
Some say You and I are One

I am Aware of Your Requests
That Irresistible Seizing of the Heart
That Knowing of What needs to be Done
That Receiving of a Distant Call for Action

I am Aware of Your Silence
While I speak uninterrupted
While I respond like a well-trained Robot to the Stimuli Without
While I know I should join you in that Peace

I am Aware of my Dualities
While You are the Constant
The Differences are Enormous,
Like the wayword Son of a Worthy Father

I may not Always feel Your Peace
But the Truth of the Connection is Undeniable
The Heart knows Secrets that Reason is unable to Explain
For it is the Home of Joy, lovingly built by Thee

Life and Your purpose

The ego, the mind was born at conception
Life however is eternal

The ego, the mind are constantly seeking something - wanting to win, to shine, get recognition
Life however has its own purpose

Winning-Losing, Succeeding-Failing, Living-Dying - are all labels that the mind, the ego puts on things -for the way the ego is born, its death is assured
But Life simply strolls through, benevolently.

Life, when seen through the mind, the ego - is a conflict, a constant striving for survival, for perfection
Life, in its pure essense, however, is delightful, calm, joyous, wholesome and complete

Identify with Life
And ride its Wave

Prompted from Within

In Total Silence, I can hear Your prompting
Like Life Itself Wants to Say something

Ever Contended, You want to Play
You want to Do

Like a Child's Play,
where the Pleasure is In the Play

How Serious we make all this
How Simple it Really is

Forget the Titles, the Names, the Recognition
These are Hollow Tin Cans that make Loud Noises

Drink from the Deep Ocean of Nectar called Life
It brings Opportunities unsought, so that You can Play
For thou Art Life, and Life wishes to Live

Wednesday, May 09, 2007

It is as it is

You are always Contended
And yet always in Action
And yet always in Rest

The false You does not know this Peace
The false You talks of Action
The false You talks of getting no Rest
The false You talks of things to Do
The false You talks of things not done in the Past

You are always Here
You don't Have to Do
And yet You Do
With complete Joy and Peace

Know ThySelf
It is not the false You you routinely Think of
It is the You when you Stop

Playing in the world

Can joy play games?

Can joy itself play with emotions - happiness, sadness, anger and elation?

Can contentment itself play with discontent and fulfillment?

O' joy of joy, playing this game of hide and seek, with your heart wide open, accepting it all, experiencing it all, where do you run to?

Laughing, smiling, teasing - why don't you stop for a while, so that I may at least see you?

The Wave and the Sea

Waves in the ocean are born, rise and peacefully pass away, re-merging with the sea. No one cries for the wave - we only marvel at its beauty! The wave does not cry for itself either - it never considers itself quite so detached from the sea in the first place!

But yes, if the wave had a mind of its own - it may very well say - "Here I come, here I rise, and, sadly, here I die - does anyone know my story? Does anyone cry for me?"

But the wave that rose beyond the thinking phase of evolution will be exactly like the wave with no mind - rising when the time is right, and dropping back into the infinity of the sea. This rise beyond the mind lets the wave reconnect with its essence - which is nothing but the sea itself! ("Aham brahmasmi"). The wave recognizes what it is, and now, consciously enjoys the act of its being a wave, though forever connected with the sea, and merrily plays its role and passes on exactly at the right time.

So it is with us - there is a time for us to Be, and a time for us to not Be - though in essence - there is a never a time that we are not - for we are one with the Infinite, one with God.

The Upanishad (ancient Indian scriptures) says, quite simply: "There is a part of you that is undying, and a part that will surely die. Identifying with the undying is the seat of enlightenment".

So then, are you the Infinite? Is the Infinite, you?
Is the wave the sea? Or the sea the wave?

A saying in the Ramayana (ancient Indian epic poem) is: "A part of the whole, is whole itself - like fire, every part holds the whole within it".

Thou art the substrate on which the story of your life unfolds. Thou art not the story, neither art thou an actor. Thou are the witness of the story, the observer, and the awareness within which the story occurs. "Tat tvam asi".

Co-Creation

You are a creator. The Infinite is a Creator.

The Buddha presents a simple vision. You are a part of that Infinite. If you allow your mind to still itself, the Infinite Intelligence is allowed to rise and act through you. In this state, your actions and decisions are endowed with deep quality. Different artists and athletes sometimes reach this sublime level of "no thoughts" - often said to be "in a zone". But when achieved in everyday living, you are nothing less than a saint - innocent, joyful and always fresh.

In this sublime state, you fulfill the impulse that arises within. As you fulfill, you become a co-creator in this divine play. The act of fulfillment is deeply satisfying, for you recognize yourself in this act.

One of the finest examples of this act of co-creation is in the Indian scripture of "Mahabharata" in the character of Krishna & Arjun. Krishna is the divine impulse within us, while Arjun is the actor. Arjun's excellence in his craft (as a warrior) allows the divine impulse to fulfill one of the most demanding tasks of the times - winning a war against an army of the greatest warriors ever assembled - through him. Arjun's name became enshrined in the hearts of all people of the age and forever more.

Jesus has said "If the flowers are clothed with these brilliant colors, imagine what wonders will Father cover his beloved children with, once they are ready".

The divine impulse is forever guiding us, seeking to accomplish extraordinary tasks through us. We have to let it act - and the best way to do that is to seek stillness and spaciousness - some distance from our rampant thoughts. And trust the Intelligence that arises.

Learning to Trust It

The voice from within, from your own Self, is ever present. It is speaking to you, as it speaks to me. We hear it when we give ourselves the space & stillness to listen.

When we do listen and follow it, we are indeed fulfilling the Universal Intent and pathways open up to us automagically. It is our sacred & joyful duty to follow through with honesty and integrity.

But even though everything seems so natural, one begins questioning - where is this going? Is that where I want to go? Is it right? In other words, we begin doubting.

But if we can simply learn to trust it - or perhaps, more correctly - trust ourselves, all the while acknowledging that anything that allowed us to be fully in tune with the Now, allowed us to unfold perfectly, with total grace and ease - then it must be Right.

Our training for our mind through the years seeks to reach out beyond the immediate, and this is where we need a fresh discipline - whence You and I become in charge and our mind services our needs, as opposed to us chasing random thoughts.

Trust Your Self. Trust the Infinite. Trust the Universal Intent.

Power of Fasting

There are a few practices that are a constant across spiritual practices across religions, and that is, an emphasis on meditation, prayer, fasting, silence.

That there are stories built around these practices to allow the mind to hang its hat onto is another matter. But all these methods have been repeatedly found as exercises that help create

  • Space
  • Stillness
  • Presence
Also, these practices create a break in your everyday routine of life, and suddenly wake you up to the presence of life, to your immediate surroundings, to the wonder that you are and the wonder of all that is around you.

Incorporating these into your annual life will make you more fully aware of yourself as That which is the source of all.

Siezed by Stillness

I sit here, typing again, when no words are needed.

With stillness and awareness, I have travelled to the moon and the stars, and felt them closer than ever. Had never realized that it is not thought, but awareness that can move so quickly and give you the feeling of touching something so closely, as if I belong with it.

The edges of the universe are exceeded by life itself, which creates it.

I am only expressing what I felt.

The re-experiencing of childhood games in its full force had already removed the element of time; the travel to stars now removes space.

The exploration of the divine has just begun.

May I invite you to join me?

Philosopher's Stone - Paaras Mani

What is a true Philosopher's stone (paaras mani in the East?) - by the touch of which everything turns to Gold?

It is the strain of Truth that flows through us all and everything. Until we touch it, everything is an illusion, looks fake and false - but once touched, everything lights up, filled with the power of Truth & Love.

Music is one such doorway - it slowly, step by step, takes you closer and closer to that Truth. And suddenly, you touch it, and it thrills like little else can - and in that moment you just Know.

Unconsciously, we know this, and to varying degrees, we resonate to music - music of all kinds from all over the world, through all history and for all time to come. Like life itself, music cannot be contained.

At various times, it has been demonized, associated with poor moral character, or otherwise cast aside - and yet it comes back, again and again, like a global compass - leading us to the Truth - the only Philospher's Stone.

Hold on to that divine melodic strain, it will never lead you astray.

The anchor

The anchor of Stillness is something worth experiencing.

While everything around bobs and weaves, stillness within anchors us, keeps us grounded and rooted. Far too often, we seek an anchor in the without, in a world whose essence is to change, to uncoil and then to curl up repeatedly. And in that process, owing to the feeling of a lack of anchor, one stops enjoying the grand play and stops participating in the grandeur of life itself.

But if the anchor is found within, and when the realization sweeps over that nothing of value is ever lost or can be lost, then the vast game - the leela - comes into full view, and one can now partake of it in full enthusiasm and joy - taking in everything to its last drop.

Seek out that which is but you.

The tender forces of creation

I was watching a picture of the Taj Mahal again today.

A monument to the love between Shah Jahaan and Mumtaz, and a creation that would not have been if not for their union.

It was a union that allowed the most tender, and the most subtle and beautiful colors of love to be, to blossom and flourish. No demands, no expectations, no stories - just love - being as it is.

Finding an equal expression in material terms is almost impossible - and yet the Taj Mahal captures that elegance - what a labor of love its creation is, with what spirit did the architects design it, and how did they infuse it with the tenderness that characterized that relationship?

Finding your voice

Stephen Covey, in his book on the 8th habit, talks about "Finding your Voice" as the key element in having a fulfilling life.

Covey has been a person who, even in his book - "7 Habits..." showed tremendous insight into the human condition. His identification of the space between event and response as the point of choice, and the place from where one can completely change one's world is a case in point.

He further mentions that the larger such a space, the more powerful is one's ability to actuate changes.

Larger the space, greater the stillness. If a large space can effect powerful change, then what can perfect stillness engender? Perhaps creation itself?

Castles in the air

Awareness is the substrate on which the thought driven drama of the world occurs; you and I are that awareness, that substrate that allows thoughts to be.

And yet our complete identification with those thoughts allows an unbelievably complex world to be built. And so often, the identification is so thorough and so complete, that breaking out of it becomes next to impossible.

Identification with the body is at least understandable, since we infuse it completely, head to toe. It is a vital element of our current state of being. But the complete and mesmerized identification with our thoughts is what is fascinating.

Woody Allen, in one of his films, depicts an individual who moves from one group to a totally different group but meshes completely with each group when with them - in mind and spirit. The film shows the power as well as faillibility of thought created worlds. They are as tall as our skyscrapers, but as fragile as a deck of cards.

Strongly identified individuals tend to demonstrate the same tendency in the opposite direction of being completely bound in a thought created world - and finding it almost scary to break free.

Let us step away, for a moment, from the spoken and the heard, and instead focus on That which allows the speech to occur, and the words to be heard. Everything we say, do, experience, happens on the substrate of That that allows it to be. And that substrate is Awareness, which is You and which is Me. Thou art indeed That (tat tvam asi).

A fresh look

Even the ordinary is the extraordinary;
The repetitious is all new,
For what I had seen once,
Was visible all anew

Before the labelling,
Before the judgment,
At the point of perception,
Lay all the Glory

Step Back, Step Back
And See Again
Do not Assume an Answer
Until you have Seen Again

Allow that to Be
Experience that Perception
And in that Awareness of the Perceiver
Find Yourself all over Again

A place with No Thing

A place with no thing
Is that the Void?

No thinking, no sound, no thing
Is that the field of Awareness?

No fluid, no solid, no air, no water
Is that the Indescribable?

No questions to ask,
No answers to give,
To Just Be
Is that the divine Spark?

Faster it goes

The faster life goes, the easier it is to visit it from the outside and from the inside, and from within. For you slow down - even as things move quickly, completely bypassing the excessive thinking process - and in that moment, you are able to step out of all of it - and watch yourself acting, reacting and yes, even thinking.

Treasure those moments where you are able to step out of it all. Outside of it all, everything is but a ripple, a gentle wind - but if caught up in it, it can take you high, drop you low, and overall make life miserable and hollow.

Choose the peace.

Know Thyself

One of the most common refrains heard in our era of philosophy:

"Know Thyself"

There are countless commentaries on this simple statement.

But the statement yet stands, all alone and resplendent.

Know Thyself.

And let us add a statement to that to clarify a point - "And Speak the Truth".

Know Thyself. And Speak the Truth.

If your self-inquiry takes you in circles - ask the question -"Who is inquiring?"
If you are aware of your self-inquiry attempts - ask the question - "Who is aware?"
If you get a reply - "I am" - then ask the question - "Who is talking?"

And really go deeply into these questions till you find your self - behind, underneath and within all these words and commentary. Till you find yourself as the very awareness that makes all this thinking, talking, inquiry possible in the first place. It is so obvious that it is hard to talk about it, and hence is easily overlooked. And yet, without it, nothing will ever occur.

Better or worse?

You are who you are as I am who I am.

Will that change if my next interaction with a fellow human being is not so witty, is not so smart, or is downright stupid, or even "evil"?

Or will it change if my next interaction is very kind and compassionate?

If you are who you are and I am what I am, then how can any of it really matter?

If I constantly judge myself, and the judgment rendered has value only until my next interaction where I judge myself again (which could be as soon as one minute!) - then who am I? Is there a I beyond all this somewhere in there?

Whether God judges us or not, we certainly are busily doing so. Defining ourselves based on these judgments - and living in a state of unremitting, low intensity terror.

Know this to be a form of madness resulting entirely due to our complete and unconscious identification with the world of form, and the yearning for connectedness with our selves.

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

So you are upset & mad

So you are upset and mad.

Allow it to be.

Do not promote it, do not demote it.

It already is.

If you find yourself fueling it, then take attention away from it and move it into your inner body for some time - till the momentum of the mind has dulled a bit.

Always remain aware of your inner-self, yourself really, who is ever present and watching. Know that attention alone is the fuel - the more it is in your power, the more connected you will be, while the more you let it be taken over, the more powerless you are to act out your thoughts unconsciously.

You empower thoughts, emotions and actions with attention. Empower your self by inner-body attention, stillness and spaciousness. Rest will follow.

The Devotee

A parable from ancient India

One day, Vishnu was visiting Narada, the divine sage. After welcoming and seating Vishnu, Narada said to him: "I speak of your name day and night, O' Vishnu, I must be your greatest devotee". Vishnu replied that great as was Narada's devotion to him, he could not call his devotion to be the greatest. Somewhat surprised by that assessment, Narada asked Vishnu as to who was this person who was a greater devotee than him?

Vishnu then pointed Narada to a simple farmer, who at that hour was carrying a jug of water from the river to his home for his family. And even while accomplishing this task, he was chanting Vishnu's name. Narada asked Vishnu: "Why is this devotee greater than I? After all, I chant your name all the time too!" Vishnu then asked Narada to accomplish the same task of carrying water from the river to the farmer's house. Narada immediately entered the earthly realm and went about carrying a jug of water from the river to the farmer's house - but all through the journey he was worried about dropping the jug and spilling the water. But he managed to accomplish the task and returned to his heavenly abode, where Vishnu was waiting for him. Narada said "I have completed what you asked of me. But I am not sure what you were trying to point out?". Vishnu asked Narada: " How many times did you remember me while accomplishing this task?". Narada, taken somewhat aback and a little embarassed, replied "Not once. I was so caught up in the task of taking the jug to the farmer's home without dropping any water from it that I did not remember you even once".

This simple story illustrates the phenomenal principle of awakening and the importance attached to that matter. Repeating Vishnu's name is an act of awakening, a realization of consciousness. This method has been used across multiple parables to convey the connection to totality - but since there are no words to describe the totality - the simple phrase of "repeating Vishnu's name" conveys the meaning adequately.

Narada and Vishnu are conversing in the realm of the One life, where awareness is complete and whole. However, in the world of form, where the farmer lives - his realization of this unity with the One is the act of bringing aware consciousness into the world of form - thus fulfilling his destiny and the purpose of creation itself. Narada's inability to bring this conscious realization into his earthly act is a pointer to the ease with which we get lost in the world of form - worried only about spilling water from the jug - than about awakening from the world of dream.

Disconnecting before connecting?

Some spiritual practices try to moderate our level of involvement with the world of form - attempting to reduce our degree of identification with it - before ensuring our connection with the totality.

This has led some of us into a state where neither the world interests us, and there is no connection to the totality either - leaving us in a limbo like state.

This often occurs because the sequence of events is in a reverse order.

A shloka in the Bhagwad Gita is relevant here:

"An embodied being, by restricting the senses may refrain from the objects of sense enjoyment; but the taste for enjoyment remains; however, this desire for sense enjoyment ceases once the Ultimate consciousness is realized"

While there are many interpretations for this shloka, the outstanding aspect is the importance of realization - until then it is just more games, more maaya.

As Tolle puts it, "Don't act like the Buddha, be the Buddha".

This connection to the infinite and eternal is the first, the prime.

The rest simply follows.

The most obvious

We are born, we live.

We laugh, we cry, we do good, we do bad, we live.

We work hard, we goof off, we make plans, we see plans scatter, we live.

We write, we read, we paint, we compose music, we live.

We stay still, we meditate, we live.

We die, we live.

tau

Artist: Hans Werner Sahm - reproduced from http://web.artprice.com/ under Fair Use.

Through Anger & Angst

Once presence sets in, the observer in you - which is you - is ever present.

The beauty is - there is no judgment, no commentary. It just is - that is - you just are.

The moment you hear commentary, judgment, storytelling - know that it is just the mind making up stories.

This does not yet mean that you are free from the mind, in control of it - it simply means that, even during times of fear, anger and frustration - you are aware of your self. You can see the drama for what it is - something illusory and not true.

And if you listen to this stillness within, allow it to be - that is you finally take over - actions happen spontaneously in a loving, healing fashion - even the most improbable tasks happen easily in the most difficult of situations.

Project Second Chance

It was interesting to read a recent report in CNN about how juvenile criminals are being treated by having them care for dogs.

"A connection with a being helps them develop empathy", said the person in charge of running the program.

Truer words could not be said.

We are all beings, all conscious.

In each of our interactions, let us interact from our being to the being of the person we are interacting with. And not with our minds - constantly judging, comparing, commenting - but instead whole heartedly, with complete oneness.

Let us pay attention not only to the speech, but to the speaker as well - the beingness of the person who is talking.

And let us listen with our being.

This interaction increases our own sense of being, our connectedness to the whole, and does the same for the person we are interacting with.

What is unnatural?

Denying what is - is unnatural.

Not being one with what is, is unnatural.

Being disconnected with the totality is unnatural.

Not having an underlying layer of peace and joy, is unnatural.

Not allowing the surface layer of emotions of form to be (crying, laughing, being happy or sad), is unnatural.

Not allowing the peace and joyful state to return (by hanging on to the surface ripples of emotions) is unnatural.

Defining and trying to identify yourself with the world of form, is unnatural.

Purpose of life

A frequent question that vexes all human beings, except for those who are at the daily survival mode, is "What is my purpose in life? Why am I here? What can I do that will make my life more meaningful and purposeful?". Actually, to even ask that question reveals a certain amount of stillness having entered your being - you are a step closer to awakening.

And then we seek answers in a variety of things including our families, career, charity and so forth. Unfortunately, many times, even after committing ourselves to them and achieving our goals we end up feeling somewhat unfulfilled. Or more correctly, the fulfillment lasts for a short time before the yearning returns.

Human Beings are a part of the world. Part of Nature. Having lost their connection with their beingness, the human seeks fulfillment in the doing.

Which is, of course, impossible.

Humans then resort to taking all actions that make him/her seem wise and compassionate - since it seems emotionally and logically the right things to do - and yet, the lack of beingness - the absence of that connection to the totality - leaves one feeling incomplete even while performing that action.

Beingness connects. Beingness fulfills. Beingness tells your perfect action for now. And lo and behold - you are happy to just do what is needed to be done right now! With no worry about the future or considerations for the past!

Get connected. That is our purpose, above all else.

Power of Attention

In Eckhart Tolle's book, Power of Now, Eckhart points out the importance of attention and calls it the attention of consciousness itself, that is your attention.

The importance of attention is well understood in accomplishing the works of the world, however, it is not as well understood as a spiritual door opener.

Since thoughts have a momentum of their own and tend to carry away our attention with them, like wild untamed horses carrying away the carriage and the rider, that is us - the question then remains, where should this attention be so that it remains in our control and opens the door to the realm of the sacred?

Many answers have been provided to us from spiritual masters across the world.

Meditation asks us to focus on our breath - the inward and outward movement of the diaphragm. This has the benefit of brining attention to our body.

Tolle takes a step further and asks us to bring internal attention to every part of our body, flooding it with attention (i.e. consciousness). He further asks us to always have a part of our attention in this inner body, as it is a portal to the beyond, which is our home.

Zen masters will frequently point to anything that requires you to be very still to hear or see - like a distant sound, or a low intensity vibration.

Paying attention to space between things, to silence, to stillness - produces its counterpart within us, and increases our awareness.

Stillness within is your home.

Doing is the effect, not the cause

Like the flora and fauna that surrounds us, led forward by instinctual doing, but more importantly, in a state of graceful rest otherwise, each of us needs to reconnect and re-learn that state of grace.

We define what happiness and sorrow is from a narrow vantage point; and we believe we have all the answers, and ignore what is in front of us.

Let us let go of such vanity, shed the future and the past and realize the sacredness of our being. This being is silent, it is still. It speaks only when it needs to. This is a state of grace.

The mind loves action, drama - anything to strengthen its sense of self. But you can observe this, see it for what it is - and in that moment, the mind returns to your service, ready to obey your command.

Once the state of graceful rest, the beingness is realized - your future course of action is charted for you. No, you will not be given all the answers for all time to come - but you will know what you need to do now. And it is accompanied with a joy and enthusiasm that you cannot explain - for it comes from beyond the realm of the mind - it comes from the realm of the sacred.

Doing is the effect of Being.

Morning, Evening, Night & Day

Every hour of the day offers a portal, a doorway to the truth within us.

From the singing of the morning birds, to the quietitude of the night, from the stillness of the trees, to the constancy of the sun & the moon.

Agitation, depression, angst - these are unnatural at any time of the day. Each hour is what is.

And you are what you are as I am what I am.

As the planets are guided, and as the stars are born and die, fulfilling their nature - so too let your nature be fulfilled, your purpose unfold.

Just Be.

The Creative Source

When does a thought become repetitive?

When do actions seem boring, tiring or ineffective?

When does speech lose its power, and writing its dexterity?

Like any thing else in nature, if we lose touch with our selves - all of the above happens. Like a vehicle without a driver, we follow arbitrary pathways, making occassional sense and a lot of non sense, we strain to hear that one spark of beauty and elegance, we overeffort to create that one liberating moment of happiness and joy.

When all that is needed is to be in touch again. With our selves, and by extension, to the source of that spark - to that stillness within.

Answers become obvious, next steps are automatically taken, every action becomes endowed with quality & power. Joy becomes our natural state, and we start wondering - "How did I survive to date?"

Be Thyself.
